numbers are checked for legitimacy

we can verify the identity of the trailer against stolen

Peace of Mind
|
General
All retail trailers will be subject to pre-delivery safety
check. This check comprises of the following:-
We ensure that the trailer meets legal requirements; wheels,
tyres, brakes and lights
Mudguards must be fitted to all road wheel tyres. We ensure
they are secure and in good condition. |
Brakes
Brakes are examined by jacking up each wheel and applying
the handbrake If the wheel does not turn the brake works.
The handbrake is released and checks are made that the wheel
is free to rotate. The wheel bearings are checked for corrosion |
Hitching
Gear
Both ball and ball cup hitches are prone to wear. Locking
devices that couple can become warn or rusted, inviting
the cup to detach from the ball when moving over rough ground.
The cup is examined, ensuring that it is not oval and there
are no cracks or splits
The
'fail Safe' device is checked. This is the wire noose that
is placed around the ball hitch after coupling or attached
to the towbar of the towing vehicle. If the trailer decouples
the fail safe device operates by activating the brakes |
Jockey
Wheel
The jockey wheel enables the trailer to be maneuvered
whilst it is unhitched and also raises the trailer to the
height of the vehicle towing ball to assist hitching up. We
examine the units carefully to ensure that all is working.
Whilst travelling the jockey wheel swings or lifts away from
the ground. Checks are made that the jockey wheel remains
in this position. It would be extremely dangerous for it to
drop during transit. |
Floorboards
These are inspected for damage. Checks are made to ensure
that the floor is not spongy in any areas.
The boards are supported along the edges of the trailer
by steel members. Rotting along the floorboard tips or edges
may result in a board falling when a horse stands on it.
We remove all rubber mats and inspect thoroughly.
We also inspect the floor externally, carefully examining
the board edges supporting the steel lipping. |
Partitions
Partitions can collapse. These are tested along the lengths
of the partitions and locking mechanisms are examined |
Ramps
Checks are made to ensure that the ramps are strong enough
to take the weight of a horse. It also needs to act as a
barrier for the horse when travelling. Split pins and ramp
coverings are examined.
Ramp hinges are usually welded to the main trailer frame
and these are fully examined |
Tyres
Tyres are examined to ensure they have good tread. This
is essential as trailers can flip onto their side if the
tow vehicle suffers a rear tyre failure |
Points
to Note
*** Your trailer should be serviced annually
*** Regular checks should be made to ensure the floor is
safe
*** Jet wash your trailer inside and out regularly
*** Check general condition of tyre and tyre pressure regularly |
